Festivals:

A legacy of Goa's chequered history are the Christian, Hindu and Islamic celebrations held throughout the year. The lively, fun loving nature of the local people is reflected in the many colourful processions that take place. Christmas in Goa is very special and there numerous Feast days celebrating the patron saints of local villages. The annual Carnival takes place in February/March with four days of processions, floats, singing and dancing in Margao, Panjim, Vasco and Mapusa. A local version of the Festival of Holi is the 'Shigmotsav', celebrated for one week, with fantastic floats based on mythology paraded in all the major towns. Diwali is a further cause for celebration when people decorate their homes and the streets with colourful streamers and thousands of fairy lights. With so many festivals, the prevailing atmosphere of Goa is always one of fun and excitment, and the locals are very happy to share their hospitality and celebrate with you.
